The awesome gadgets of CES 2011

January 6, 2011 in Android, CES 2011, Electronics, Gadgets, Hardware, Notebook, Samsung, Tablet

Well the CES 2011 show has just come out with some surprisingly amazing gadgets and gizmos , here are some gadgets that created a buzz at the show

Net gear launches N3200 – WNXR2000 wireless networking with powerline networking

Netgear is to merge wireless and wired power line networking, pitching at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) a “hybrid” 802.11n Wi-Fi router with an AC adaptor that doubles up as a Home Plug AV adaptor. It also launched what it claims is the first ever 500Mb/s power line adaptor. Net gear  will be competing with  Belkin who already  offers a gigabit power line adaptor

Netgear N300 Wireless Router with Powerline AV (WNXR2000)

They have launched the hybrid box, the N3200 – model number WNXR2000 – which allows you to extend your network’s reach out into wireless cold spots by using the mains wiring. It has basic 200Mb/s Home Plug AV support integrated into its mains adaptor – just plug in a separate HomePlug AV adaptor to create the link. You could use Netgear’s new Internet Adaptor For Home Theatre adaptor – aka the XAVB5004 – a four-port unit that also supports 200Mb/s Homeplug AV

Samsung Tablet or notebook – best of both worlds

cant decide if you want a small notebook or a tablet? Samsung’s latest lets you have them both. Samsungs TX100, unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Shows (CES) today is a 10.1in, 1366 x 768 LCD tablet with a built in physical keyboard too. The 80-key deck slides down and forward, turning touch screen tablet into a laptop

samsung tx100 CES 2011

Samsung notebook + tablet is based on an Intel Atom chip and runs Windows 7 Pro rather than the ARM’ n’ Android combo favored by Samsung’s Galaxy Tab tablet and has Wi-Fi and a Micro SD memory card slot, plus a proprietary port into which you can hook a selection of USB and HDMI adaptors.

Microsoft  Touch Mouse

it’s a mouse that drops the scroll wheel for a muti-touch surface, allowing you to flip through pages with a swipe of your finger.

microsoft touch mouse CES 2011

“One finger lets people manage individual documents or pages by flicking to quickly scroll, pan and tilt, and one thumb lets people move back or forward through a Web browser. Two fingers manage windows, letting people maximize, minimize, snap and restore them. Three fingers let people navigate their whole desktop, showing instant viewer or clearing their desktop.”

This wireless gadget comes with an ultra-compact USB adaptor and, MS claimed, it can track on “virtually any surface” – not glass or mirrors, though

Samsung PMP – Android powered MP3 player

Samsung has announced the launch of its latest PMP – apparently the world’s first Android powered MP3 player, according to the company, which appears to have missed Archos’ Google OS offerings.

samsung_galaxy PMP android _player CES 2011

The Samsung Galaxy Player 50 has a 3.2in touch screen, 2Mp camera and comes with either 8GB or 16GB of storage, expandable using Micro SD cards of up to 32GB, with in-built Wi-Fi. The Galaxy Player  due to wifi can connect to Android Marketplace to access over 100,000 apps and games. Its browser is Flash compatible, and the Galaxy 50 boasts broad format support with drag and drop capabilities, Samsung said

Get GST refund on Cameras and gadgets

September 18, 2010 in Camera, Electronics, Gadgets, Laptop, Refund Scheme, Sony VideoCamera

Not any people are aware of  this scheme  and its truly legit  and many  people  in australia just miss out because they were not just aware of this scheme . Its  called the “Tourist  Refund Scheme” or you could also call it the “GST REFUND SCHEME” because essentially it is giving you back the GST portion of tax that you have paid on the items

About the “Tourist Refund Scheme” (TRS) – Duty Free

The TRS enables you to claim a refund, subject to certain conditions, of the goods and services tax (GST) that you pay on goods you buy in Australia. If you wish to claim a refund, you must get an original tax invoice from the store where you buy the goods. All stores registered for GST will be able to give you a tax invoice

Toursit gst-refund-scheme-australia -ingapore

How the Tourist refund scheme works ?

- This refund  is possible because  the duty on cameras has been replaced by the GST (10%)
- GST can be claimed back if purchased within 30 days of travelling
- Must show tax invoice at customs
- Claims at airports are available up to 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of your flight
- Must take goods with you through customs
- Minimum purchase $300 (incl GST) on the one tax invoice
- You can open and use the goods within the 30 days prior to departure

Methods of receiving your  Gadget or Electronics refund via the GST or Tourist Refunds Scheme

Tourist GST refund scheme australia

You can collect your refund through one of the following methods:

    * cheque

    * credit to an Australian bank account

    * payment to a credit card

For passengers departing from international airports, the process will only take a few minutes. However, you should allow time to complete check-in, security and outwards clearance formalities and also allow for queues at the TRS facility.

Full details are available – You can download a copy of the  official TRS brochure ( link Below)

Going on Holiday – “Sony Handycam SX43E” might be handy from JB HI FI

September 7, 2010 in Gadgets, Handycam, Sony VideoCamera, Special Offers

Impulse buying is such a good thing, because with impulse buying you get to suffer the guilt only later or then gloat at your new bargain if done properly as  in my case. Its pretty much taking a chance. luckily for me it paid off.

Bargaining at JB HI FI  for a Sony Handycam SX43E ..Oh yeah

Off to holiday soon , so  i was in the city browsing for a camera and sauntered into JB HI FI , saw a couple of models Panasonic  ($393)and sony handy cam($393) with crossed off priceswith sticker on them  telling me to ask the salesperson for a price. I though i will give it a shot  and asked the salesman  what he could offer me  . he said $350 and said the “Sony handy cam”  was the best among the lot and he would choose it for himself , Though the black panasonic model in  the display case was looking quite flash and nice for the same crossed off price  , he said he could not bring that down as cheap as $350

Sony Handycam DCR-SX43E Jb hi fi specail offer

So i  settled with his technical knowledge to choose the sony handycam , but  gave it another shot and asked him to throw a memory card in  as well ( no luck) , but still good  settled with the JB HI FI SALESMAN  FOR $360 with  a 2 Gb memory card thrown in  as well which costs another $19.95 if bought separately ( so it cost me only $10)

It was a “pretty good deal” that saved me approx $40 or even more if you consider buying it from some online sites ( with  the freight charges included  as well)

Creating movies has never been so easy so go ahead  and get a sony handy cam  for your holidays or then to just get creative and make some  home videos. Whether you are the next Stephen Spielberg or just another budding producer director or enthusiast you  will want the “Sony Handycam DCR-SX43E” in your hands when  wanting to capture that   video you so much wanted to record.

Ipad index and price comparisons

July 26, 2010 in Big Boys Toys, Gadgets

The Apple iPad is now readily available in 10 countries, and on present exchange rates, Australia is the third least expensive location to buy the brand new gadget.

Ipad in Amazon Australia

With six different models, it can be hard to keep track of what’s available with the iPad and what it costs. The chart below offers a quick reference for you to compare.

iPad

In January 2007 CommSec launched an iPod index as a way of looking at issues such as the impact of currency changes on consumer spending, globalisation and retailer margins. In this latest update we
switch our attention to the Apple iPad in light of their recent world-wide launch. The CommSec iPod index was created as a modern day version of the long-running Big Mac index compiled by
The Economist magazine. Both indexes work on the theory of ‘same good, same price’. That is, the same good
should trade at broadly the same price across the globe if exchange rates are adjusting properly. Interestingly, when expressed in US dollars, the price of the new iPad is identical in Australia, Canada and Japan
and not far away from the pricing in the US. But in the UK, Germany, France and Italy an iPad costs 20-25 per
cent more than in the US. The question is whether Apple has priced its product too high for the European market
or whether the UK pound and Euro need to depreciate further to bring global pricing into line.
Australian travellers to the US can still save money by buying their Apple products while on holiday. Travellers
can help save $24 (12 per cent) on a 8gb iPod nano, $213 (20 per cent) on a 32gb iPhone and $68 on a 64gb Wi-
Fi 3G iPad by purchasing the goods in the US rather than Australia. But overall Aussie gadget lovers have few
reasons to be disappointed regarding the prices they are paying for their shiny new iPads. On current exchange rates

The Difference Between iPad Models
(WiFi vs 3G)

There are two types of iPad to consider – The first model is known as the iPad (cheaper option) and will connect to the internet via WiFi (in your home or at a WiFi hotspot/cafe), and the second model (iPad 3G) will connect to the internet anywhere you can use your mobile phone via a 3G network, and connect in your house via WiFi .Ipad in Amazon Australia

iPads cost $40-60 more in Australia than the US, but if the exchange rate fell to around US80c then prices would

Quickflix online DVD rental. FREE trial, FREE rentals Choose from over 32,000 titles. Register now

Pros: No need to browse physical DVD rental store. Don’t have to return rented DVD to DVD rental store. Wide-ish selection,, including foreign, obscure stuff. Free trial. Fast shipping. Flexible returns i.e. no late fees. No surcharge for Blu-Ray. Can add movies currently in cinema to my queue (of course have to wait till the movie is released on disc before it is available). Email notifications about what my next movie is.

Cons: No Blu-Ray or Premium content during free trial. As with services of this type, no way to pre-choose exactly what I want to watch at a particular time. Selection is wide-ish, but some gaps.

Overall: I am a movie buff who chooses not to have a movie disc collection. I have a $20 (8 DVDs, 2 at a time) account. I live in Sydney, so shipping is fast. I tried the same service from Tasmania, and the shipping time was longer (this means that the turnaround time between when a DVD is sent, and a new one is received is longer). I joined primarily because I have a PS3 that plays Blu-Ray. I found disc prices high, and rental stores have limited Blu-Ray titles. Even for DVDs, it’s a toss up whether popular movies are available when I visit, or (for weeklies) where on the shelf the movie is. For movies that I “want to watch now” without waiting for Quickflix to send to me, I pre-book it at my local RedRoomDVD kiosk, and rent it from there, or watch it on iTunes Store Rentals (no Dolby 5.1 sound). I find Quickflix suits my lifestyle, and highly recommend it. I haven’t had any scratched DVDs, or ones lost in the mail.
